Andrew Clark reviews the recording “Stéphane Denève conducts Debussy” for The Financial Times:
The point he makes about La Mer, Jeux, Images, Nocturnes and Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune is that this is not musical impressionism, (…) but a language in which every voice and timbre must be heard. (…) Denève still summons a sensuous bloom in the Prélude, and thanks to his influence, the RSNO proves better than the French at their own game: these are among the most seductive Debussy performances I have heard in years.
